City Center

A journey to Lake Baikal begins from Irkutsk. On our website, you will find all the necessary information for tourists about this city. Irkutsk is located along the bank of the Angara River, in 60 kilometers from the Baikal. Therefore, it is very easy to reach the Lake from the city because minibuses take off to the Baikal each 15 minutes.
The main touristic area in Irkutsk is the city center. International tourists can see there the old buildings of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries! Usually, it is enough to spend 1-2 days to tour the town center. Besides it, visitors can relax in city parks, or try delicious food of Russian and Buryat cuisines in cafes and restaurants. Every guest of the city must taste the local delicacy – buuzy, which you can order in restaurants of Buryat cuisine.

Green Line

The city is a starting point for a trip to any place of Baikal. However, not only this makes it an attractive place for tourists. For their convenience, guests of Irkutsk can use a huge number of services – city tours, craft workshops, boat trips on the Angara River and much more. Moreover, if you want to save your money, you can always explore the city on your own because it has all the necessary conditions for this! To walk around the city and admire its old architecture will help tourists project “Green Line” – a free tourist route that passes through all the main attractions of Irkutsk. To use the route, you just need to move in the direction of the green line. Near each attraction, you will find an information plate with a description in different languages.

Summer weather

In the summer months the city is in the heat! Since may, it is getting warmer and in the middle of summer the temperature can reach more than 30 degrees! At this time, it is nice to walk through the shady streets of the city or eat ice cream in a cafe. Sometimes the rains give citizens a break, but the heat will until September.

Weather in winter

Siberia is considered to be one of the coldest regions in the world. However, unlike other Northern regions of Russia, winter temperatures rarely drop below -50 degrees. In the coldest winter months, the thermometer can show -40 degrees for one or two weeks. In general, the average temperature in winter in Irkutsk is about -25 degrees Celsius.

By plane

Krasnoyarsk to Irkutsk: about 1500 roubles, 20 hours

Plazkart – Wagon is one big room. Each passenger has a bed. It’s a cheap variant, but there can be too noisy.
