Irkutsk public transport

It’s how to travel fast and cheaply

Irkutsk public transport

If you have visited other Russian cities, you have noted that public transport is viral. And we will tell you why – it’s incredibly cheap and helpful! For just 30 roubles you can go wherever you want, without any limits on distance or time. When you go somewhere by bus, and you know your bus stop will be soon, you should stay closer to the front door – by this, you will show the driver you want to go out at the next bus stop. There are three doors in buses – the front door, the middle door, and the back door. Usually, passengers get on the bus through the central or back door and leave it using the front door. If you go out through the middle door or the back door, other passengers or a driver could think you want to escape without paying.

Irkutsk Taxi and Trams

There are three types of public transport in Irkutsk – buses, minibusses, and trams. All of them have similar rules regarding use. But trams have one difference. You mustn’t pay directly to the driver because a staff takes the fare. Just wait, and she (or he) will come to you for payment and give you a special ticket to be sure you have paid the fare. Save it until the end of your route!

In the evening or at night it is more convenient to use a taxi. Of course, you can order a cab by dialing a taxi-service number. But you should know the Russian language to do this or ask your Russian friend to call for you. If you take a taxi on the street, the driver can ask for a too high price. For example, the average cost is 150-200 roubles, but the driver can ask for 500 or even 1000 roubles! The good idea is to use particular applications like “Yandex Taxi,” “Gett,” and others. Anyway, a hostel or hotel receptionist will always help you order a taxi.
