This route is perfect
for a short one-day walking
Olkhinskoe plateau is very close to Irkutsk. It is a good choice for a short one-day route. The road to the plateau takes about one hour. A train drives you to the «Orlyonok» train stop.
Leaving an electric train, you will find yourself in the Baikal forest. Tall trees with green crowns will protect you from the hot sun. The Olkha River winding along the tourist trail will give you beautiful views and share its coolness. The river will be a companion in your travel almost till the end of the route.

Rock «Vityaz»
There are few rocks on the Olkhinskoe plateau. The rock «Vityaz» is the most popular. Choose a long or a short trail to reach it. When we was visiting the Olkhinskoe plateau, we chose the long path to «Vityaz». On our way back, we went by a short one.

The way took about five-six hours. I came to the «Orlyonok» stop at 14:00. But our tickets back were on the 20:00. So we had to be in a hurry. Don’t make the same mistake and buy tickets for an earlier time, at 12:00 o’clock at least. In this case, you will have enough time to enjoy your healthy walk!

The route itself is not challenging. About 80% of the way to the rock is a direct, simple road without inclination. And it is broad enough for a car!

Near the Rock
The path will become more vertical and narrower close to the route’s end. After a short walking, you will reach the rock «Vityaz». There you’ll find a place for a rest and camping, as well as many tourists and climbers.

On your way back, choose the second, the short trail. The path is very picturesque. It is full of giant stones splitting with the tree’s roots!
