he name of this small city can be translated as “city of Baikal”. Baikalsk is an attractive place for tourists not only due to the beautiful places, but also due to the excellent environment. Moreover, Lake Baikal creates here a unique soft climate for Siberia. The average temperature in winter in these places is 10-15 degrees below zero, and summer is famous for its constant comfortable temperature of 25 degrees throughout the summer period.
To see Baikalsk attractions, tourists can visit a popular ski resort, pomegranate beach, as well as the annual festival of strawberries! From Baikalsk it is also convenient to make further tourist trips to the most beautiful places of the Baikal region: the relict forest, the Khamar Daban ridge, the Warm and Sable lakes and Baikal Tankhoy reserve.
Ski Resort "Sobolinaya Mountain"
This ski resort is one of the most popular in Russia.
It has a developed infrastructure and good tracks of varying complexity. The highest point of Sobolinaya Mountain is 1004 meters above sea level. It offers stunning panoramic views of the lake and steep slopes. The ski season in the region begins in November and ends in May.
The ski center is very popular among the residents of the Irkutsk region and Buryatia, especially a large influx of tourists and skiers account for the weekend. Due to its location, it is always sunny here! The winter temperature is about -15 degree.
This unusual name of the beach in Baikalsk was due to the colour of the sand. It contains a natural mineral almandine, which has a reddish tint.
Pomegranate beach, with a relatively small width (only 5 meters) has a length of several kilometres. This natural wonder in Baikalsk attracts tourists from all over the world. Especially beautiful Pomegranate Beach at sunset. In the rays of the sun, the sand gets a rich unique shade.
According to scientists, sand contains almandine and it has a positive effect on the human body and has healing properties. People can see this wonder of nature only in Baikalsk and nowhere else in the world.
The Strawberry Festival
Every summer in July, Baikalsk city gathers hundreds of tourists at the strawberry festival. The duration of the event is several days.
Visitors of the festival are invited to take part in competitions for the most delicious and beautifully decorated dishes of ripe strawberries. Guests can enjoy a variety of desserts, pies and cakes made from this berry. During the festival, guests can see houses, and bus stops (even garbage cans!) with decorations in the form of strawberries, as well as a separate monument to berries.
These picturesque lakes are located in a dense forest near the mountains 38 km from Baikalsk. In summer, the water in the lakes warms up well to + 28°C, so they are called Warm, in winter all the lakes are frozen. Nor far from this place, tourists can see a mountain called Monomakh Cap.

Tankhoy village is 70 km from Baikalsk. Most of all, the village attracts tourists who like nature and silence. On the territory of the reserve, you can see many picturesque places. Close to a local river there is a small waterfall, with a height of 4.5 m. the Trip to it takes about 4 hours on trail among the ferns and blue spruce.

How to get to Baikalsk
You can reach Baikalsk by bus paying about 500 roubles the road takes 4 hours. Minibuses take off from Irkutsk Bus Station.
