Most tourists choose a train. Let’s take a look at this variant closer. Mostly trains come to Irkutsk from six cities: Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Vladivostok, Ulan-Ude, Moscow and Beijing

Novosibirsk to Irkutsk: about 2500 roubles, 1 day
Krasnoyarsk to Irkutsk: about 1500 roubles, 20 hours
Vladivostok to Irkutsk: about 7000 roubles, 2 days
Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk: about 1000 roubles, 8 hours
Beijing to Irkutsk: about 5000 roubles, 2 days
Moscow to Irkutsk: about 8000 roubles, 4-5 days

Types of Wagons on Russian Railways

Wagon lux

Luxe – The most expensive variant. It’s like business class for airbuses. The wagon is only for few passengers served with expensive food and drinks. Access for other passengers is forbidden

Wagon kupe

Kupe – Wagon is divided into small rooms for four people with places for luggage, four beds, window and small table. The most widespread variant

Wagon platzkart

Plazkart – Wagon is one big room. Each passenger has a bed. It’s a cheap variant, but there can be too noisy.
