Great Baikal Trail Tour Details

This Great Baikal Trail tour covers the first section of the trail, which begins in Listvyanka and ends in the village of Bol’shiye Koty. This is the first and easiest section of the trail to traverse. As a reminder, the entire Great Baikal Trail is very long, consisting of four sections with a total length of approximately 175 kilometers. It will take you about five days to complete it!
You’ll start in Listvyanka, where after a short briefing, you’ll set off. For those with average fitness, the route won’t be difficult. The most challenging section is right at the beginning — not far from Listvyanka, you’ll encounter a long climb and an equally long descent.
The trek will take about seven to eight hours. A boat or motorboat will be waiting for you in Bolshie Koty, which will take you back to Listvyanka to have a rest.

We’ve already mentioned that there’s an alternative route, where the journey begins in Bolshie Koty and ends in Listvyanka. In this case, you have two ways to get to Bolshie Koty:
1. Arrive in Bolshie Koty from Irkutsk by boat.
2. First, drive to Listvyanka by car, and then take a boat to the village.
The alternative route has one big advantage: you don’t have to rush. The boat usually runs on schedule and won’t wait long for you in Bolshie Koty. But your car in Listvyanka will be waiting for you at the parking lot, no matter what!

Baikal Smart Travel recommends!

On the trail, you’ll encounter numerous streams flowing into Lake Baikal. To avoid weighing yourself down with heavy bottles of water, we recommend bringing a small bottle and refilling it periodically from the streams.
